Year end is here and for many of us this means an avalanche of to do’s both at home and at work. Whether closing the books or writing holiday lists we are faced with a choice each day: is the stress of all of this going to make me go dark? We all know that feeling, that moment when each additional “task” becomes the bane of our very existence, our blood begins to boil, a stream of socially unacceptable words rises to our lips. Do you know that this means? You’re human!
At Story 19 I believe that every new challenge, task, initiative, or problem has the potential for a positive outcome. I believe we should begin by framing the discussion and our mindset around that potential. I call it “Positive Framing” and it pertains to every challenge in your life. If you recognize a problem at work frame it as an opportunity to be better. If your to do list seems too long recognize the amazing outcomes of completing that list. Framing is contagious. Negative framing has incredible power in our lives as we watch attitudes disintegrate around us. Positive Framing motivates those around us to be better, to believe in more, and to have a greater impact.
So with less than one month left in 2018 I invite each of you to take the Positive Challenge. For the rest of the year choose in each moment to look at the positive potential, in each conversation focus solutions rather than problems, and smile. Maybe it will be so contagious it follows you into the new year.
